On the morning of December 2, 2022 William (Bill) Mason Caldwell, son of Josephine Avery and Pete Caldwell Jr, passed away, joining the Lord in his eternal resting place. From his birth in Burke County 90 years ago, on September 6, 1932, to now, he has been the patriarch of his family and a beloved member of his community. He will be dearly missed, and the home he created under the hill will be forever cherished.

Bill was a lifelong member of Willow Tree A.M.E Church, where he served as a member of the Culinary Committee. He was also a member of the Lake James Fire Department - Auxiliary Group and the Oak Hill Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delia Emma Corpening Caldwell; his daughter, Helen Edmonson; his sisters, Annie "Rosie" Mae Avery, and Nannie Caldwell Ervin; his brothers, Dan Caldwell, and Ernest Caldwell; and his great-granddaughter, Alicea Surratt.

Those celebrating his glory and memory left on Earth include his daughter, Anita Brigman (Curtis) of Chesapeake, VA; loving and caring son-in-law Carlton Edmondson; honorary daughter, Martha Corpening (Alexander); sister, Mary E Caldwell, and Angelee Caldwell Connelly (Ted); three brothers-in-law, James Corpening, Hugh Corpening, and Bruce Irving; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Mr. William Caldwell will be held Tuesday December 6, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations; Interment will follow at the Willow Tree A.M.E. Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
