Van Lawrence Horton, born April 29, 1960, answered the call peacefully at the age of 63 on December 20, 2023 surrounded by family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother, the late Florence Howell Horton and the only father that he has ever known, Wilfonze Horton.  Van was sweet, humble, outgoing, full of joy and he was always smiling.  He loved the outdoors, KFC, Moonpies, Oatmeal Cakes, hotdogs, teddy bears, and his baby dolls.  He was also known for wearing his different hats; he will truly be missed.

Left to cherish his memories are his siblings: Ollie (Allen) Bailey of Wilkesboro, NC, First Lady Mary (Bishop Michael) Sloan of Lenoir, Howard (Janice Jackson) Horton of Raleigh, NC, Regina Horton of Lenoir, Missionary Lisa (Elder Charles) Dula of Lenoir, James Horton of Fairbanks, AK, Thomas (Laura) Horton of Lenoir, and a host of aunts uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and extended family members.

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Van Lawrence Horton will be held Sunday December 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at People's Tabernacle for God with Co-Pastor Sunda Jones presiding and Bishop Shawn Hooper serving as the eulogist; interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
