Tommy Louis Peterson was born May 15, 1942 to Louise and Coleman Peterson.  Born in Burke County, he was the fifth of six children.  His grandmother, Annie Avery Grimes, helped raise him and was very influential in his life as a young boy.  He attended Olive Hill School and grew up in Slades Chapel AME Zion Church.  He worked in the laundry department at Broughton Hospital for most of his life and retired from there.

Tommy married the love of his life Sara Ann Robinson and their marriage of 53 years blessed them with two wonderful daughters.  He was a devoted husband and father.  Tommy and his brother Walt were always the life of the party.  He liked to entertain and was happiest when he had a house and a porch full of people. Family and friends knew they could stop by anytime for a little libation, a few card games and some good conversation.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife and his daughters, Annazette Peterson Edmondson and Antoinette Peterson; sisters Annie Jay Hicks and Willette Peterson Chambers; and brothers Carl Nelson Peterson and Walter Wiley Peterson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his sister, Catherine Yelverton (Earl) who resides in Aurora, CO.  He also leaves behind two sister-in-laws, a brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a large circle of friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday August 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations with Rev. Audrey Gwynn presiding and Rev. Diane E. Conley serving as the eulogist.  Mr. Peterson will lie in repose for the public one hour prior to the service.
