On the evening of Monday March 6, 2023, our Heavenly Father received into His loving arms, the soul of our beloved Mrs. Thelma Booker Tate.  Born on November 17, 1941 in Union, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Booker and Lizzie Rice Booker.  She migrated to Morganton where she met and married the love of her life, the late Charles Tate; to this union four children were born.   Thelma was a homemaker, where she faithfully served as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.  She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she attended until her health declined.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her loving husband (three months and twenty-one days ago) Charles Tate; brothers Henry Booker, Thomas Booker Jr., James Giles, Amos Booker, and John Wesley; sisters Sally Rice Helmans, Inez Booker Rorie, Lucille B. Tate, Ella Mae Johnson, and Carrie Mae B. Gantt.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her daughters Daphney Lipford (Mike) and Sandra Tate of Morganton; sons Charles Kenneth Tate of Morganton and Bruce Anthony Tate (Carrie) of Wisconsin, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday March 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations with Rev. William Rice serving as the eulogist; interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  The repast will take place at New Hope Baptist Church (413 Bouchelle St.) immediately following the interment.
