With heavy hearts, we announce the transition of Mr. Stephen Leon Pinson, 61 of Durham (formerly of Morganton), who departed this earthly life on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at Carver Rehabilitation & Living in Durham, following an extended illness.  He entered this world on May 2, 1963, in Mt. Vernon, NY, to his mother Ms. Martha Pinson.  "Stevie" was educated in the New York City School System and the Burke County School System.  He was very fond of NASCAR, was a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan, and enjoyed working on cars, having spent many years as a mechanic.  After a long fought battle with declining health, it was now time for Stevie to take his rest.  Stevie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Herman and Maggie Lee O'Neil Pinson, and his maternal uncle and aunt.

Left to mourn his loss but cherish his precious memories are his children: Steven Buchanan of Corpus Christi, TX, Sheenia Scott of Mooresville, NC, and Nenishia Scott of South Carolina; mother Martha J. Pinson of Harlem, NY; brother Kevin Pinson (Gloria) of Harlem, NY; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, special aunt Lorene McElrath (James) of Glen Alpine, and a host of special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Stephen Leon Pinson will be held Saturday April 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations; interment will follow at McElrath Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
