Stephen Lynn
Conley
October 8, 1957 – January 6, 2025
Mr. Stephen Lynn Conley entered this world on October 8, 1957, in Burke County as the son of the late Joseph Conley and the late Louvenia Rutherford Conley; he began his Heaven bound journey on Monday January 6, 2025, at Amorem Hospice in Hudson. He was educated in the Burke County school system and following graduation he went on to receive his associate's degree in Horticulture from Western Piedmont Community College
A lover of music, he dedicated his life to the art that brought him and so many others so much joy and meaning. From an early age he learned to play the bass guitar, and boy could he play! Not only was he self-taught with the bass, he was also self-taught in reading music. Throughout the years he played and traveled with many bands including Jump Street Drive, The Drells formerly Archie Bell and the Drells, Bill Pickney and the Original Drifters, Hot Phun, and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, but he was widely known for being one of The Gospel Enforcers, where he would spend 25 years traveling all over the U.S., spreading the Gospel through song. Steve touched many lives, whether through teaching, performing, or simply just being a friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Owens, nephew Leroy Owens, and great-nephew Christopher Navayian Perkins.
Left to mourn his loss but cherish his precious memories are his children: Stephein Conley, Tyler Heath, Jorel Heath, and Chelcy Conley; brothers Ronald Conley (Rev. Diane), Wayne Conley, Chris Conley, and brother in law Clayton Owens; grandchildren: Jaiden Bridges, Tyler Hood Jr, Skylah Hood, Sebastian Heath, Felicity Heath, and J'Kara Heath; godchildren: David Fleming, Severina Campero, and Mario Campero; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
