Tribute to Mitzi

It's hard to find the right words when someone who meant so much to you is no longer here.  Today, as we reflect on Mitzi's life, we are reminded of the love, joy and generosity she brought to everyone around her.  We feel incredibly fortunate to have known Mitzi, to have shared laughter, struggles, and countless memories that we will forever hold close. She had a heart that was kind and generous.  Whether it was offering a listening ear, sharing advice, or simply being there when you needed her most.  Mitzi was a devoted fan of the QVC shopping network. Anytime you asked where she got something, she'd light up and proudly declare, "QVC!" She especially adored the Vera Bradley brand and could easily have been one of QVC's most loyal customers.

When Mitzi disapproved of something, you knew it. She had a signature side-eye that said it all - and if things got serious, her alter ego "Sophie" might even make an appearance.  A couple of us remember Mitzi telling a story about playing under her grandmother's bed as a child. One day, she spotted a shotgun tucked underneath and asked her father about it. His response was classic: "That's why we always let her know we're coming—never sneak up on her!" Her grandmother had a colorful way with words, too. When the kids got too loud, she'd call out, "Y'all stop all that 'larmin'!"—her own version of "alarming," meaning they needed to quiet down. And if things ever got really silent, she'd say, "It was so quiet in there, you could hear a rat piss on cotton."  Mitzi served on the Board of Ushers at Faithful Central Bible Church for many years.  As one of the past President's expressed, "A true soldier in the Lord.  Mitz was one of those special individuals that always had a beautiful spirit and was always humble to everyone she met.  She was dedicated and never disputed her responsibilities of where she wanted to be placed on the floor."

Though Mitzi is no longer with us in the way we wish she were, her impact on our lives will never fade.  The kindness she showed, and the love she gave will forever be part of us.  She has left a lasting imprint on our hearts, and every memory shared with her will be cherished for as long as we live.  As we grieve the loss, we also celebrate the incredible person she was.  Her light will continue to shine in our hearts, in the stories we tell, and in the way we carry her love forward.  Mitzi, we will never forget you.  Thank you for being our friend, for showing us the true meaning of kindness and loyalty, and for making this world a better place just by being yourself.  You will always be loved, always remembered, and always missed.

Rest in peace, dear friend.
