Mr. Melvin Harris Jr. was born to the late Rachel Lee Fleming and Melvin Harris Sr. on February 23, 1962 in Brooklyn, NY; he departed this earthly life on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at UNC Health Blue Ridge.  Melvin moved to Morganton where he received his education.  He worked a host of jobs including fast food, factory jobs, and yard work.  Melvin was known for his outgoing personality and was always working and taking walks around downtown Morganton.  In addition to his mother, Melvin was preceded in death by his step-dad Earl Fleming, grandfather William Leroy Fleming, and grandmother Marry Lizzy McGimpsey

Left to mourn his loss but cherish his precious memories include his daughter Sierra Forney of Belmont, NC; aunts Bernice Alexander of Long Beach, CA, Doris Fleming, Willa Ann Fleming, Vivian Martin, and Lola Demetris Tucker all of Morganton; uncle Thomas Thurman McGimpsey (Eloise) of Plainfield, NJ; a host of cousins – including his favorite cousin Lola Fleming – and friends whom he loved.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Melvin Harris Jr. will be held Saturday December 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations with Pastor James Rutherford presiding and Pastor Kevin Crawford serving as the eulogist.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
