"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you REST"
Matthew 11:28-30
Mr. Maurice McArthur Jackson was called by God to rest peacefully after battling an extended illness. He believed in God and did a lot of praying. He was not afraid of dying and said numerous times, "Death does not hurt." His family and friends will always remember him as a giving and sharing person. Also, he was a very skillful carpenter, which he made as his life-time career. He loved to help people with or without pay. He never met a stranger and had a cheerful word for those he met.
He loved sports from an early, early age. Starting in second grade, he was on the school football team and on the basketball team, all that way until grade 12. Also in junior high school, he picked up a great interest in track and field and became a shining star at that also. He earned high honors in the high jump, long jump, and his specialty, the triple jump, which landed him a spot in the junior Olympics held in Utah. He attended several colleges including WPCC in Morganton, A-B Tech in Asheville, NC, and East Tennessee University.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving mother Clara Perkins Jackson of the home; siblings Leonardo V. Jackson (Tamera) of Asheville, NC and Shanece C. Belvin (Amir) of Atlanta, GA; six special aunts – the Perkins sisters; four children: Antonia Grimes, Courtney Grimes, Sydney Grimes, and Aliyah Grimes; several special nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. "Mo" or "Mardy" as most people called him was preceded in death by his sister Sherri D. Jackson whom he loved dearly and his father Dr. McArthur Jackson whom he said was his best friend. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
