Maggie L.
Wallace
June 11, 1947 – May 5, 2024
In the early morning of May 5, 2024, Maggie Lee Wallace, 76, passed away peacefully at Sherrills Ford Hospice House in Sherrills Ford, NC. Maggie Lee was the first born to Samuel and Essie Lee Moore Wallace on June 11, 1947 in Morganton, NC, where she would spend her entire life. As the oldest of 7 children, Maggie Lee, took her big sister role seriously as she provided constant love and attention on her younger siblings. Her role as 'big sister' only grew throughout her life as she served as a mother-figure, aunt, friend, and confidant to many. Maggie Lee was a proud member of the last graduating class of the great Olive Hill High School in 1965.
She spent of her career working at Carolina Shoe Company and J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, where she retired after several years as an aid to its permanent residents. She found joy in making her residents feel comfortable and loved while under her care. Maggie Lee was a fierce believer in The Lord and was a faithful member of Mt. Herman AME Church, where she was a member since childhood. She was an active member and served as secretary and treasurer of the Trustee Department. She poured love and commitment into her church community.
Maggie Lee's true passion was baking, she could truly make any cake, pie, or confection one could imagine. She found joy in allowing her creativity to run wild in the kitchen and showed up to family, church events, work or any other event with a delicious dessert, or 10, for everyone to enjoy. As an avid collector of cookbooks, she sought out new recipes to improve her impeccable baking skills—it seemed as the years went on she got better and the cakes tastier. Second to baking, she was a voracious reader about anything concerning love; just like her, of course.
Maggie Lee loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her Aunt Lee Lee. Not having any children of her own, she cared for them as if they were her own. She is survived by her siblings, Samuel Wallace Jr., Maxine Wallace Fleurinor, Essie Wallace Pierce, Paul Wallace, Charles Wallace and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel Wallace Sr., Essie Lee Moore Wallace, brother, Henry Albert Wallace and nephew, Nicholas Wallace.
A homegoing celebration will be held Sunday May 12, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations, with Rev.
