Linda Mae Kanipe, born October 28, 1951, in Burke County, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at Carolina Caring of Newton. Her life was marked by compassion, dedication, and enduring love for her family, friends, and community.

Linda’s devotion to caring for others defined both her personal and professional life. She earned her Associates Degree and went on to serve as a Licensed Practical Nurse—a career through which she touched many lives with kindness, skill, and empathy. Her tenure at Western Carolina Center exemplified her commitment to helping those in need, ensuring countless individuals received comfort and support in their most vulnerable moments.

A beloved mother, Linda is survived by her sons, Spencer Kanipe of the home, and Patrick Heard of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Baron Jerrell Kanipe, Jaron Kanipe, and Tyra KirkPatrick, as well as her great-grandson Knoxx Kanipe. Linda also leaves behind close-knit siblings: her brother Earl Kanipe and wife Maslyn, and sisters Hattie Kanipe, Teresa Davis, Gail Robinson, and Gwendolyn Somerville. She is fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Teresa Fredrick. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. 

Linda was preceded in death by her father, Ned Kanipe, her mother, Louise Martin Kanipe, and her brothers, Edward Fredrick and James H. Davis. Their memories, along with Linda’s gentle spirit and nurturing heart, will continue to be cherished by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Her unfailing support and encouragement uplifted her loved ones throughout her life. She was a steadfast presence, filled with warmth and compassion, whose impact continues to resonate within her family and far beyond.

Family and friends are invited to gather in Linda’s memory on August 4, 2026. The Receiving of Friends will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at McCain Funeral Home & Cremations, LLC, 220 Avery Ave, Morganton, NC 28655, immediately followed by a Memorial Service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
