Obituary

Leon Genwright, 69 of Lenoir, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Amorem Hospice in Hudson. Born December 10, 1954, in Mullins, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Forme and Katie Genwright. Leon was a proud 1973 graduate of Lenoir High School. He furthered his education by graduating from Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute in 2009 with an associates degree in business administration.  He was proud to be employed with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Department as a corporal at the Detention Center. Leon was employed with the Sheriff's Department for 12 years before retiring in December 2020. Leon was a proud member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, men's choir member, groundskeeper, and church security.

Left to cherish his memories are his sister, Terri Genwright Perkins of Lenoir, and brothers Forme Lee Genwright of Lenoir, Robert Genwright (Maxine) of Omaha Nebraska, Leroy Genwright (Bettye) of Lenoir, Michael Genwright (Angela) of Lenoir, Victor Genwright of Lenoir, his special niece/caretaker Danielle Perkins of Lenoir, special friend Robin Scott of Lenoir, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Mr. Leon Genwright will take place Saturday August 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. James Perkins serving as the eulogist; interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
