Leatrice Roberts

Mrs. Leatrice Roberts Pearson, age 95 of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Carolina Caring Hospice in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Mrs. Pearson was born on April 29, 1930, in Polkville, North Carolina, to the late Ed Roberts and Crattie Williams Merritt Roberts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Roscoe Roberts, John William Roberts, Joseph Nathan Merritt Coleman Roberts, Edward Roberts, and Roosevelt Roberts and three sisters, Rosie Mae Hardin, Sallie Bell Brooks, and Gladys Langley.
Mrs. Pearson was a retired educator whose extensive career included teaching English at Douglas High School in Lawndale, NC. She also taught at Freedman High School, Hudson High School, and South Caldwell High School in Caldwell County. She retired after 30 years in the classroom. She was also noted as being the first African American high school English teacher in Caldwell County. Mrs. Pearson continued her passion for learning and books by building a vast personal library, which she generously shared with the community.
Mrs. Pearson was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Lenoir, where she served as a member of the Missionary Society and as editor of the church newspaper. Her services in Lenoir also included The Foothills Performing Arts, the board of directors for the Caldwell Senior Center, the Caldwell County Human Relations Committee, and the Friends of the Caldwell County Library. Mrs. Pearson was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and the NAACP.
Surviving her death are two sons, Eric Vohn Pearson (Sheena) of Newton, NC, Monique Yvette Stokley (Prince) of Kingsland, Georgia, and Geoffrey Maurice Pearson of Raleigh, NC. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Dr. Cyrenah Nicole Stokley (Dominique) of Cordele, Georgia, Prince Anthony Stokley II (Charmagne) of McDonough, Georgia, Johnathan Alexander Stokley of Dallas, TX and Marissa Nyela Pearson of Clayton, NC, along with eight great-grandchildren. Extended "adopted family" include Tony and Glenda Bowers of Lenoir and Ida and George Danner of Hickory, NC. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's AME Church in Lenoir, NC at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday October 11, 2025. Visitation and receiving will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by the interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
