Johnny Carol Rice, 56, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023. He resided in North Hollywood, Calif. He was born December 8, 1966 in Morganton.  Johnny is the son of the late Charles Laymond Rice and Bessie Lee Caldwell Rice Oates.  He attended Burke County Schools and graduated from Freedom High.  Johnny was one of Morganton's all star basketball players starting in middle school through high school.  After high school, he attended Wingate University of Charlotte, NC.

He is survived by his daughters Sissy and Tye Lail, brothers and sisters Charles Rice Jr. (Sheila), Cynthia Dula (Marice), Reuben Rice (Chiffion), Reggie Oates (Kim), Sandra Oates Schenck, Regina Oates, stepfather Donald Oates, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday June 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations, LLC.
