Mrs. Jessie Raye Rutherford Corpening, 78 of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at UNC-Chapel Hill on Tuesday November 15, 2022.  Born on February 17, 1944, she was the daughter of the late George Roy and Amelia C. Rutherford.  She was a life-long member of Corpening Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the finance committee, kitchen committee, and sang in the choir.  She was also a member of the Bessie Corpening Women's Missionary Society.  She retired from Broughton Hospital.  Jessie had a loving and quiet spirit and absolutely loved her dog Princess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Leonard Corpening; brothers Thomas Corpening, George Rutherford, Abner Rutherford, Ralph Rutherford, Richard Rutherford, and Roscoe Rutherford; sisters Leola Hardy, Marjorie Scott, Ruth Rutherford, and Amelia Faye Rutherford.

Left to cherish her loving memory is her brother Lewis D. Rutherford; sister Norma R.  Ervin (Ned), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Mrs. Jessie Corpening will be held Saturday November 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations; interment will follow at the Corpening Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
