Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Hazel Turner, 70, who passed away on March 10, 2025, peacefully in her home.  She was born on September 21, 1954, in Burke County to the late Louis "Sonny" Largent, Jr. and Helen Forney Largent.  She was a former member of New Hope in Christ Baptist, where she served as Assistant Children Choir Director, and President of the Usher Board and Pastor Aide Committee.  Our mom was a woman of extraordinary strength, boundless love, and unwavering devotion. As a mother, she not only cared for her own children but extended that same nurturing spirit to a whole community of children, including those of her siblings. She was a guiding force, a protector, and a constant presence in the lives of all those fortunate enough to know her. Though our mother could be tough and vigilant, her sternness was always a reflection of her deep love and desire to see those around her thrive. She believed in discipline and hard work, instilling values that continue to resonate in the lives of her family and loved ones. Her love was unconditional, and her ability to care for others was unparalleled. She took on the responsibility of raising not just her own children, but many, offering a safe and loving home to all who needed it.

In addition to her parents, Hazel, was preceded in death by her husband Michael L Turner Sr.  five brothers: Charles N. Largent, Clyde B. Largent, Johnnie L. Largent, James Largent, and Herbert E. Largent   three sisters: Florence G. Largent, Eula M. Largent Jackson, and Marilyn Louise Largent Malone, and a special niece Phyllis Jackson.

She leaves behind to cherish loving memories to her children, Catherine Largent of Hickory, NC. Helen Turner of Morganton, NC and Tina Turner of Charlotte, NC and Edna Anthony of Morganton, NC.  One son: Michael Turner, Jr. of the home. Sister, Theresa Largent and Brother Ricky Largent (Texie) of Valdese, NC;  eight grandchildren: Christopher Turner,  Mikeal"Dajour" Turner, Cameron Turner, Tiara Turner, Brenden Abrams, Laterrian Turner, Christian Hoffpauir, and Schylen Turner.  two great grandchildren who she adored Zaiya Turner, and A'Dorie Mickey.    A special mawmaw to Ricky Largent, Jr., Jeffon Corpening, and Carolyn Corpening and many more. Two sisters-in-law:  Phedelma Hancock (Rick), and Patricia Young   Three brother-in-law James "Skeeter "Turner and Jermaine Turner all of Johnson City, TN, and Jim Malone of Hickory, NC.  She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Hazel was a mother and to many and a friend to all.  Our mother's legacy lives on through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, and whose lives were immeasurably better because of her presence. Her memory will continue to guide and inspire all who were privileged to be part of her world.  Rest in peace, momma. You were a force of nature, a loving mother, a devoted wife/grandmother, and a cherished friend. You will never be forgotten.
