Emeline Elizabeth Avery, 83, of Morganton, departed from this earthly life on Friday, October 24, 2025. Emeline was born on November 7, 1941, to Napoleon Avery Sr. and Robbie Rutherford. She had a passion for the outdoors. Emeline enjoyed fishing, as well as spending time gardening flowers. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Annette Moore and Nannie Mae Avery.
Left to mourn her loss, but cherish her memory are her children: Vanessa Hayden of Morganton, Susan Means (Greg) of Morganton, William Dean Avery of Morganton, and Theodore Avery of Morganton; brothers: James Lewis Avery of Morganton, and Napoleon Avery Jr. (Mary Ann) of Morganton; sister: Mary Avery Mathews of Morganton; grandchildren: Keishia Avery, Miranda Avery, Tyler Hayden, Shawnte Avery, and Derry Avery; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Ms. Emeline E. Avery will be held Thursday October 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations; interment will follow in the Willow Tree A.M.E. Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
