With deep respect, we remember the life and legacy of Derrick Neal Shade, who passed away on July 7, 2026, at his residence. Born on September 8, 1964, in Burke County, Derrick was a cherished son, brother, and friend whose presence touched many lives.
Derrick’s early years were rooted in his hometown, where he attended the Burke County School System. Striving for growth and excellence, he went on to pursue additional studies, attending some college to further his training as a machine operator. This path led to a dedicated career in the manufacturing field, where Derrick distinguished himself through his skill, reliability, and commitment.
Beyond his work, Derrick was known for his unwavering love of sports, particularly his devotion as a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. This passion brought him great joy and was often a source of lively conversation and camaraderie with friends and family.
Family was central to Derrick's life. He is survived by his loving mother, Cordie Ann Shade, whose care was steadfast throughout his years; his brothers, Rev. Michael Shade and Rufus Shade Jr., who provided support and companionship; and his devoted spouse, Cynthia, whose partnership brought comfort and strength. Derrick’s presence extended warmly to his niece, Symone' Shade, and his cousin, Rita Rankin, who both held him in deep affection. He is preceded in death by his father, Rufus Henry Shade Sr., and his brother Mark Shade whose memory remained ever close to Derrick's heart.
Through all of life’s moments—its challenges and celebrations—Derrick Neal Shade remained a person of integrity, kindness, and steady wisdom. His legacy will be carried forward in the memories of those who knew him best and loved him most.
A graveside service to honor Derrick’s memory will be held at 11:00 AM on July 15, 2026, at Mt. Herman A.M.E. Church Cemetery, located at 3737 Mount Herman Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655. All who knew and loved Derrick are welcome to gather in remembrance and celebration of his life.
May Derrick Neal Shade rest in eternal peace, forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
