David Thomas
Bryant Sr.
February 23, 1934 – May 19, 2026
David Thomas Bryant Sr., affectionately known as "Biscuit," passed away peacefully at his home on May 19, 2026. Born on February 23, 1934, in Burke County, David lived a life defined by love, generosity, and deep connection to his family and community.
From his early years, David embraced the call of service, dedicating part of his youth to serving in the United States Army. This commitment to others carried through all his endeavors. His professional journey was marked by dedication and entrepreneurship. He served as a valued Board member of the West End Fire Department of Morganton, North Carolina, contributing his time and wisdom to the safety of those around him. David’s career included work with Great Lakes Corporation, after which he pursued his passion as an entrepreneur and logger for many years. He later retired as the proud owner of Bryant’s Concrete Business, a testament to his hard work and determination.
At the heart of David’s life was an overflowing spirit of generosity and love. He shared openly from the bounty of the earth, nurturing those around him with the fruits of his gardening and hog-raising pursuits. A true gardener at heart, he found joy in tending the land and providing for friends and neighbors alike. His home was a beacon of warmth and welcoming; for years, he transformed his kitchen into a barber shop, serving customers of all ages with care and skill. His annual community cookouts were cherished events, offering friendship and fellowship around good food and laughter.
David’s passions extended to fishing, a beloved activity he enjoyed with family and friends in rivers, lakes, and oceans, cherishing those moments of peace and connection with nature.
On September 20, 1959, David married the love of his life, Doris Ann Deal. Together, they shared a lifetime filled with joy and three sons. Though Doris tragically passed away on April 22, 2004, their love remained a guiding light in David’s life.
David is survived by his loving daughter, Lennie Fran of Columbia, South Carolina; his sons Calvin Moore (and wife Orlinda) of Leander, Texas; David Thomas Bryant Jr. of Morganton; and Duncan Eric Bryant of Morganton. He was a proud grandfather to Thomas Wright and Yolanda Nicole Bryant, affectionately known as Niki Poo, both of Morganton, as well as three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, and two great-great-grandchildren. Family was central to David's world, and their love gave him great joy.
He also leaves behind cherished siblings: brothers Bernard L. Bryant (Mary Ann) of Joliet, Illinois; Arney L. Bryant (Vera Etta) of Morganton; and sisters Pearl B. Toms, DeLois R. Bryant, and Yara Neranti (previously Sara Bryant), all of Morganton.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Deal; son Donovan, known as Donnie N. Bryant; brothers Arthur T. Bryant and Floyd M. Bryant; and sister Mary L. Corpening.
Known for speaking and living a life of love, David was extremely giving and loving in all his relationships. His presence was a source of light and kindness, touching the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He shared his time, talents, and heart freely, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and devotion.
