Connie Ervin
Caldwell
February 7, 1945 – February 6, 2024
In loving memory of Connie Ervin Caldwell, who peacefully passed away on February 6, 2024. Connie was born in Burke County on February 7, 1945. She left this world one day before her 79th birthday; someone said that perhaps she wanted to spend her next birthday in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Connie grew up on Johns River, sharing the chores of farming with her parents and siblings. She would often share how she never had to long for food due to farming, yet it was a difficult life for her as a child and teenager. One day, the opportunity came to leave that world behind and find a new existence in New Jersey. Upon graduating from Olive Hill High School and leaving Morganton for a short time, she eventually returned home to raise her children and work many years in the textile industry.
Because of her upbringing, she was fond of the outdoors and cared deeply about the flowers, plants, and trees that surrounded her home. A good day for Connie was to go outside, pull some weeds from her flower garden, survey her surroundings, and then kick back with the newspaper and a cup of coffee.
Simplicity and practicality were marks of her personality, as well as an unforced wit, sharpness of tongue, authenticity, and unpretentiousness, all cloaked in love and kindness that endeared her to all who knew her well.
By far, her most significant accomplishment was the raising of her six children. She would argue that she could have done a better job. They would say that she leaves them an incredible legacy of love, persistence, resilience, and, most notably, faith in Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Caldwell; her parents, William and Lizzie Ervin; siblings, Katherine Davis, Annie Sue Max, Sadie Mae Max, Millard Ervin, Herman Ervin, William Ervin, Jr., Sophie Jean Pearson, John Ervin, and Carl Ervin. Living siblings are Jeanette Norwood, Margaret Pearson, and Harry Ervin.
Connie's most significant and most profound affection and motivation was to her children and grandchildren, whom she presented as trophies by placing their pictures all around her home. Surviving are her children, Kimberly Logan (George), Bradley Ervin, Primadonna Jones, Adrie Jones, Richard Jones, and Shah Lipsey (Kissha). Grandchildren Gabriel Logan, Katie Logan, Michael Logan, Joel Logan, Aaron Brittain, Lauren Ervin, Miles Ervin, Emily Dione Ervin, Kali Sipes, Arianna Jones, Deja Shade, and Jade Lipsey. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, and a host of neices, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
In Connie's last two weeks of life on this side, she was asked by those attending her at the hospital, "What statement do you wish to remember when we test your mental capacity?" capacity?" She wrote, "I believe in Jesus." Way to Go, Connie!
A homegoing celebration will be held Sunday February 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at New Day Christian Church with Pastor George Logan serving as eulogist; interment will follow at Mission A.M.E. Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
