In Loving Memory
of
Christopher Lamont Dula, Sr.
The call to eternal peace and rest came to Christopher Lamont Dula, Sr. on Friday, September 4, 2026. Born on July 7, 1959, in Lenoir, North Carolina, Chris was the beloved son of the late Roy Dula, Jr. and Beatrice Ferguson Dula. Chris was a member of Dulatown Presbyterian Church, where he served proudly on the Usher Board. He received his formal education in the Caldwell County Public School System, graduating from Hudson High School in 1977. In 1986, Chris married the love of his life, Doris Brown Dula, and together they built a beautiful family of three children.
Chris was preceded in death by his brothers Harry M. Dula (Susan), William M. Dula (Bill), Rondy M. Dula (Randy) and sisters Loretta Woods and Shirley L. Hamilton.
Chris leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Doris Brown Dula, of the home; two sons, Omar Little and Christopher L. Dula Jr.; and daughter Alaina Dula Bowers (Landon Bowers). He is also survived by his brother Terry M. Dula and sisters Patricia D. Grimes, Regina C. Barnes, Velvon D. Forrest, Twana L. Dula, Angela J. Dula, Leslie M. Bristol (Mark), Tessa L. Dula, and Mona L. Harshaw (Puggie), whose husband Jeff preceded her in death. He is lovingly remembered by his sister‑in‑law, Louella Dula, a host of nieces and nephews, and ten cherished grandchildren.
Chris proudly served in the United States Army, dedicating 12 years to his country, including service in Operation Desert Storm. His military service reflected the strength, discipline, courage, and unwavering dedication that defined his life. A man of many passions, Chris was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved cheering on the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) and was a devoted fan of the Duke Blue Devils Basketball Team. Beyond his accomplishments, Chris was a loving husband and father — a provider, a protector, and a man who believed deeply in taking care of the people he loved. He was smart, detailed, and incredibly capable. He didn’t give up easily; was a problem-solver, a hard worker, and someone who took pride in doing things the right way.
Chris’ greatest accomplishment; however, was the family he cherished. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, the conversations shared, and even the small everyday moments will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. Chris showed strength throughout his life, and he carried that same strength until the very end. He fought with determination, courage, and resilience. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Chris will carry a piece of him forward. His influence will continue through his wife, children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and all the lives he touched. Today, we do not only mourn the man we’ve lost — we celebrate the man he was.
Chris will be deeply missed, but will never be forgotten. His strength will live on in his family; his lessons will live on in his children and grandchildren; and his memory will live on in every story we tell and every moment we remember.
Rest peacefully, Chris. Thank you for being the man you were. Until we meet again, may you rest in peace!
