Obituary

Charlotte Charlene Gardin began her life on July 12, 1944 born to the late Robert and Hattie (Moore) Gardin and finished her journey on November 8, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She was the third of 11 children and is preceded in death by her son Patrick Lee Gardin, brothers Jessie, Ed, and Freeman, and sisters Betty, and Barbara.

She was educated in the Burke County Public Schools System, graduating from Olive Hill High School in 1964. She moved to Boston, MA. where she worked as a Nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. After several years in Boston, she relocated back to Morganton and worked for the North Carolina Department of Transportation until her retirement.

She loved to shop, travel, and spend time with family. After her retirement, she lived with her daughters for several years in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas before moving back to Morganton to stay with her son. She also enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean with her sisters and travelling to watch her son, grandchildren, nieces, and nephew play sports. While living in Morganton, she was a member of New Day Christian Church where she served on the Hospitality Ministry.

She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life a loving son, Rick Gardin (Gladys) of Morganton, NC; daughters Tonya Erwin (Robert) of Prosper, TX, and Tamara Snead of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren Harkeem, Khristopher, Taylor, Imani, Devian, JaNaila, Amaria, Janna, and Nolan; great grandson Lukas; brother Frank Gardin of Morganton, NC; sisters Mary Collette (Joe) of Morganton, NC, Sarah Sharpe of Statesville, NC, Thelma Gardin, and Linda Gardin of Morganton, NC, one aunt Lillian McDuffie of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Ms. Charlotte Charlene Gardin will be held Saturday November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at New Day Christian Church, with Pastor George Logan serving as the eulogist; interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
