Charlie Mae
Davis
September 8, 1952 – May 9, 2026
The Lasting Memory of a Beautiful Soul, Charlie Mae Davis (Cook)
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if it go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14: 1-3
A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Charlie Mae Davis passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we take comfort in the belief that those who are in Christ are granted new life in His glorious presence, a promise that fills us with hopeful joy.
Charlie dedicated many years to serving others, retiring from Broughton Hospital and Grace Ridge. She was an active member of Shiloh AME Church, where she sang with the Senior Choir and offered warmth and hospitality to all who visited her home. Her generous spirit and open heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, and she never met a stranger.
Born in Morganton, North Carolina, to Lucille Davis and Charles Davis Sr., Charlie’s radiant smile and kind soul lit up every room. Her passions included spending time with family and friends and cooking the kind of home-cooked meals that brought loved ones together and created lasting memories. She took great joy in sharing those meals and moments with others.
Charlie Mae Davis is survived by her devoted son, Anthony Davis, Morganton NC, cherished grandchildren Marcus Davis, Kahari Davis, Kazalyn Davis, Natyri Davis, and Brooklyn Davis; siblings Katherine Davis, Bonnie Johnson Smith (George), Cassandra Howell, Terry Davis (Wanda), Jerry Davis (Rita), James Rutherford (Elizabeth), Donald Davis (Stephanie), Ronald Davis; sister-in-law Vanessa Davis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life: Johnny Woodruff; her parents, Lucille Martin Davis and Charles Davis Sr.; a brother Charles Davis Jr.; grandson Tevin Davis; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who remain in our hearts.
A Receiving of Friends will take place on Monday, May 18th, 2026, from 12:30-1:00 PM at Shiloh AME Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Shiloh AME Church Cemetery.
