Our Heavenly Father in His divine providence and wisdom called for the soul of His beloved daughter Mrs. Carolyn Faye Carpenter, 90 of Morganton, who began her Heaven bound journey on the morning of Friday June 2, 2023 at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton.  Born July 19, 1932 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Mae Corpening O'Neil and the late William Roscoe O'Neil.  She was a graduate of the historic Olive Hill High School and worked over 20 years at Roses as a sales associate and several years at Diamond T. Jewelers.  She met and married Mr. Columbus Carpenter Jr. and to this union three children were born.  Faye was a faithful member of Chambers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, assistant secretary, and assisted the junior choir.  She was also a member of the Bethune Club.  In her spare time, you would find Faye tending to her array of flowers, watching her soap operas, and Lifetime movies.  Her humorous and fun-loving demeanor would certainly light up a room.  She was the rock for her family and she loved them dearly.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Columbus Carpenter Jr., her cherished son Columbus Carpenter III, sisters Rose Bud O'Neil, Lucy Josephine Scott, Louise Watts, Thelma Shade, and Willie Mae Greene, brothers Harold O'Neil and Edward O'Neil.

Left to mourn her transition but honor her memory are daughters Carolyn Zackery (Joel) of Drexel, Phyllis Carpenter of Morganton, three grandchildren: Keavan Summers of Gastonia, NC, Lamont Summers of Morganton, and Angel Carpenter of Morganton, six great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Carolyn Faye Carpenter will be held Thursday June 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Chambers Chapel Baptist Church; interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
