Obituary

Carl Hubert Perkins, of Caldwell County, was born on June 2, 1944, and passed away on September 20, 2026. He will be remembered as a devoted Christian who gave his heart to the Lord, a man whose life was marked by love for his family, generosity toward others, and a spirit that brought joy wherever he went.

Carl worked as a supervisor at Drexel Furniture, and throughout his life he was known as someone who helped everyone, no matter the situation. He was full of life and laughter, and he brought laughter and a good time to everyone around him. Those who knew him will remember the familiar sayings that were distinctly his, including “heck” and “Dag-gum,” expressions that became part of the warmth and humor he shared so freely.

Family was at the center of Carl’s life. He loved gathering with his family to enjoy a good dinner and talk about the “good ole’ days.” He had a special way of bringing everyone together during the holidays, creating traditions that will be cherished for years to come. Among those treasured traditions was his making of chitterlings during the holiday season, along with the spirited contest over who had the best chitterlings. In his younger years, he also fried fish for fundraisers, another reflection of his generous heart and his enjoyment of bringing people together. He taught others to always love each other, and that lesson remains part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Carl also had a passion for racing cars and raced in drag strips. He was a football fan and enjoyed the excitement and fellowship that came with the sport. Through every season of life, he faced challenges with strength, and he overcame the battle with cancer with the same determination that marked so much of his journey.

Above all, Carl’s proudest accomplishment was marrying his best friend forever, Linda. They shared more than 50 years of marriage, a bond built on love, devotion, and enduring friendship. That love became the foundation of a family that meant everything to him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Perkins; his son, Carl “Pep” Hubert Perkins Jr., and his wife, Nikki; his daughters, Tina Rutherford Connor and her husband, Jerome, and Tiffany Rutherford; his grandchildren, Trenton Kincaid, Ciara Rutherford, Tiara Rutherford, Jordan Rutherford, Zachary Johnson, Aquayla Johnson, Marisha Perkins, and Jayson Perkins; ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Diane Perkins; and his brother, William Perkins; as well as many special nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a family who will continue to hold close the memories of his laughter, his traditions, his wisdom, and the love he gave so generously.

Carl was preceded in death by his father and mother, Daniel and Mary Perkins; his brother, James Otis Perkins, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Perkins; his sisters, Patricia Perkins and Winnie Perkins; his sister-in-law, Priscilla Perkins, and special niece Karen Miranda Perkins.

Carl Hubert Perkins will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him. His life was one of faith, family, laughter, and togetherness, and his memory will live on in the stories shared around family tables for generations to come.
