October 19, 1935 – May 28, 2024
In the early hours of Tuesday May 28 2024, our Heavenly Father called home the spirit of our beloved Mrs. Bertha Mae Wilkins Vaughters after a period of declining health. Born October 19, 1935, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis E. Wilkins and the late Emma L. Thompson Wilkins. She was educated in the Burke County School System, graduating from the historic Olive Hill High School. She worked for many years as a housekeeper for Jodi Hill and later worked in the cafeteria of Grace Hospital (now UNC Health Blue Ridge), where she retired as a nutritional specialist. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. James Vaughters and to this union two daughters were born. Bertha was a faithful member of St. John Church of God Ministries under the leadership of the late Bishop Gilbert Gooden and Pastor Diane Gooden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Vaughters, daughter Donna M. Brown, son-in-law Andre Brown, brothers Curtis E. Wilkins Jr. and Robert Wilkins.
Left to mourn her loss but cherish her precious memories is her daughter Mia Ayne Vaughters; sisters Daisy Oakley, Martha June, and Blanche Wilkins; brothers Roy Wilkins, Ronald Wilkins (Vanessa), and Donald Wilkins; grandchildren Dominique Brown (CJ), Courtney Brown-Canty (Zach), Andre P. Brown (Melissa), and Caitlin Davis; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Brown, Marleigh Brown, Isaiah Davis, Zayden Canty, best friend Mary Hunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
