Ms. Barbara Jean Rutherford, 68 of Morganton, left behind her earthly sorrows for her Heavenly reward on Friday January 31, 2025, at Amorem Hospice.  Born October 13, 1956, in Burke County, she was the daughter of Manley Caldwell and Martha Rutherford Caldwell.  Barbara was educated in the Burke County School System and upon graduation she worked for many years for the Burke County Transit Authority.  She was a member of Shiloh A.M.E. Church where she served on Stewardess Board #2, Nina Bess Missionary Society, the Gospel Choir, and the Kitchen Committee.

Left to mourn her loss but cherish her memory are her parents: Martha and Manley Caldwell of Morganton; Her sons: Chadwick Rutherford and Darius Rutherford (Taylor) of Morganton; Sister Edith Hunter (Jimmy) of Morganton, and Brother Manuel Caldwell (Teresa) of Morganton; Grandchildren: Amirah and Remy Rutherford; Nieces: Lashawn Caldwell Jasmine Hunter; Shamika Caldwell Zigbou (Andre); Nephews: Quintin Hunter;  and James Guthrie; as well as a host of cousins, great-nieces, and nephews.

A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Ms. Barbara Jean Rutherford will be held Friday February 7, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh A.M.E. Church with Rev. Dr. Wayne A. Johnson Sr. officiating and Pastor B. Douglas Cuthbertson serving as eulogist; interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
