Barbara Ann Patton
Leonard
Jun 27, 1950 — Jul 31, 2026
Barbara Ann Patton Leonard, lovingly known as “Bobby” and affectionately called "Buckwheat" by her brother Harold, was born on June 27, 1950, in Morganton, North Carolina, to the late Hattie Elizabeth Patton Glenn and Robert Thompson.
Barbara was a devoted mother, cherished family member, and treasured friend whose life was defined by love, strength, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara pursued her education at Seattle City University and later built a rewarding career with Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. Throughout her years of service, she was admired not only for her dedication and professionalism but also for her many talents. Barbara was known for her gifts as a singer and model, carrying herself with grace, confidence, and charm.
Faith, community and family were central to Barbara's life. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, and Tabernacle United Church of Christ. During her younger years, she shared her beautiful voice in church choirs, often singing alongside her beloved nephew, Rodney Patton, and her dearly departed brother, John Wilson Patton, affectionately known as JW.
Barbara will be remembered for her loving spirit, infectious smile, joyful laughter, wisdom, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, encouraged, and loved. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved her, especially her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Wilson Patton and Roy Nelson Patton.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Chelii’ Mona’ Broussard and Felecya Charmaine Leonard. She was also blessed with beloved grandchildren: Charmona’ LaFleshe Leonard, Kyra Mona’ Leonard, Kena Elizabeth Leonard, Cody Lamar Oliver, and great granddaughter Mona’ “GiGi” Lillian Byrd. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Eugene Patton.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted partner, Marke Calvin Connelly and former spouse Franklin Charles Leonard, along with her nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, church family, former coworkers, and countless loved ones whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Although Barbara is no longer with us in body, the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
The service will be livestreamed on the McCain Funeral Home Facebook and YouTube Pages.
