Antonio Marchelle
Thomas
October 17, 1969 – February 23, 2026
Antonio Marchelle Thomas, 56, of Morganton, NC, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at his residence. Born October 17, 1969, in Morganton, Antonio lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and the simple joys that brought people together.
Antonio was the son of John Cantrell and Carolyn Thomas Cantrell. He was educated in the Burke County School System and graduated from Freedom High School, where he built friendships and memories that stayed with him throughout life. Known as a steady worker, Antonio spent many years employed as a general laborer, earning respect for his reliability and willingness to do what needed to be done.
A loyal UNC Tar Heels Fan, Antonio enjoyed following his team and sharing in the excitement of game days. Whether watching a big matchup or talking sports with family and friends, he brought the same quiet enthusiasm and pride that marked so much of who he was.
Above all, Antonio cherished his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Anthony Lamont Thomas; his parents John Cantrell and Carolyn Thomas Cantrell; his brother Timothy Cantrell; old time roommate and friend: Daniel Beal and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will remember him with love.
Antonio's life, though far too soon ended, will be remembered for the love he had for his family, the work he put in day after day, and the presence he brought to those who knew him. His memory will remain a lasting part of the hearts he touched.
A homegoing celebration honoring the life of Mr. Antonio M. Thomas will take place Saturday February 28, 2026 at 12:00 noon in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations with Pastor Douglas Cuthbertson presiding and Pastor Mike Mathes serving as eulogist; interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
