Mrs. Annie Laverne Corpening Hawkins was born November 11, 1940, in Caldwell County, NC to the late Eugene Corpening and the late Sophia Shade Corpening.  She departed this world and entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday February 25, 2025, at her residence.  Annie worked for many years as a domestic worker, serving in various capacities.  She professed faith in Christ and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a member of the adult choir, head of the kitchen committee, and a missionary.    Annie was united in holy matrimony to the late Roy Leonard Hawkins Sr. and to this union, six children were born and five reared.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons John Hawkins and Kelvin Hawkins, and several siblings.

Left to mourn her loss but cherish her precious memories are her children: Felicia Dula (Blake) of Valdese, Roy Leonard Hawkins Jr. of Charlotte, Darrell Hawkins of Valdese, Crystal Brown (Wayne) of Valdese; special children Rev. Dr. Marvin Connelly Jr., Rod Davenport (Jean), Ricardo Berry, Roger Bradshaw (Andrea), and Melissa Crisp; sister Millicent Daughtry (Sylvester) of Fairfax, VA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; special granddaughters Shwna Cruz, Stacey Berry, and Latisha Johnson; great-aunt Anne Ramseur; brothers in law Bruce Hawkins Sr. (Judith) and Freddie Hawkins (Ricky); long time friends Maseline Berry, Shirley Kincaid, and Louise Tucker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday March 1, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Wesley Hendrix serving as the eulogist; interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday February 28, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations.
