Obituary

Mr. Andre Mondell Hester was born April 24, 1977 to Ms. Vonzella M. Hester in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.  He finished his earthly course of life and began his life in eternity on Saturday September 30, 2023 at his residence.

Andre, affectionately known as "Dre", was educated in the Richmond County School System before transitioning to Atlanta, Georgia where he spent a number of years.  In 2019, Andre began feeling the nudge of the Holy Spirit to return home to Rockingham to be closer to his family.  Shortly following his time of transition back home, God sent a very special woman into his life, in the person of Ms. Tracey Lyons, beginning a lifelong friendship.  While living in Rockingham, he was employed with Perdue and Burlington Industries.  He joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D.R. Bennett where he was active in the Men's Ministry, served as a Sunday School Teacher, and served as an usher.  He was also active in coaching/volunteering for his sons' sports teams.  Andre was a serious student of the Word of God and endeavored to continually share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he encountered.  He lived a life of selflessness, service, and devotion to his family, especially to his children.  To know Andre was to know a Man of God with a heart of gold!

He was preceded in death by aunts Lavern Nicholson, Sandra Bruce, and Stephanie Dianne Allen, uncle Tommy Lee Hester, great-uncle Samuel Davis, maternal grandmother Mother Ida Mae Hester, maternal grandfather James Thomas Albert Hester, surrogate father (who helped raise him) John Gary Stanback Sr. ("Tartie"), and cousin Cedrick L. Hester.

Left to mourn his loss but cherish his precious memories is his loving mother Vonzella M. Hester of Rockingham; children Jacorey McKeever of Ephraim, UT, Andre Hester of Atlanta, GA, DreShawn R. Hester of Rockingham, and DreQuan ("Chico") S. Hester of Rockingham; sisters Rosalyn N. Hester of Rockingham and Shaunda H. McCain (Cody) of Morganton, NC; aunts Virginia Hester, Della Marie Hester, Mother Anna Margaret Gross, and Cynthia Dockery all of Rockingham; uncles Elder Larry Hester (Deidre) of Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth Hester of Rockingham, Thomas W. Nicholson of Rockingham, and Carey Allen of Rockingham; devoted friend Tracey Lyons, special cousin - whom Dre loved as a brother -  Marcus Hester of Chattanooga, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
