Mr. Alonzo Eugene Cunningham was born November 7, 1971, in Welch, West Virginia to Elwood Harriston and Mattie Lee Hill.  He passed away unexpectedly on Sunday February 16, 2025, at his residence.  He received his early education at Welch Elementary and graduated from Hibriten High School in Lenoir.  He worked for Broyhill Industries for over twenty-five years and recently worked for RPM Wood Finishes in Hudson; he was also employed part-time with Dula's Cleaning Service.  Mr. Cunningham was married for eleven years to Gracie D. Rizzitano (formally Cunningham) of Morganton and to this union, three handsome sons were born, whom he loved and adored; they reared their children in Lenoir for several years.  Alonzo enjoyed watching his sons play sports throughout their school years, and was one of their biggest fans, cheering them on from the sidelines.  His favorite pastime was to view sports related activities, whether it be in person or on T.V.  Mr. Cunningham was always respectful, happy go lucky, and caring; he was loved by many people.

Left to mourn his loss but cherish his precious memories are his sons: Elijah Cunningham (Jasmine) of Connelly Springs, Joseph Cunningham of Morganton (and student at Western Carolina University), and Justice Cunningham of Morganton; one sister Andrea Cunningham of Welch, WV; one dear sweet granddaughter Zhavia K. Cunningham, mother-in-law Clara McLean, brother in law John McLean, and many friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday February 21, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in the Corpening Memorial Chapel of McCain Funeral Home & Cremations with Rev. Dr. Terry Hunt serving as eulogist.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
