Obituary

Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of Alberta Gail Hall, a remarkable woman who was born on January 26, 1956, at Grace Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina. Alberta passed away October 30th, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Florene Berry and Frank Hall, and from an early age, Alberta's radiant spirit touched everyone around her. Alberta spent her childhood as part of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she found faith, friendship, and purpose. She was a devoted member of the junior choir as a child and later found her voice in the church's spiritu al choir, bringing joy to those who heard her sing. She was not just a singer but an entertainer, one who could lift spirits and draw people close with her infectious smile and beautiful voice. Alberta's sense of community extended beyond the choir; she was a star player on the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Go-Getters softball team, showing us her strength and determination in everything she pursued.

A student of Drexel High and East Burke High School who later earned her GED from Western Piedmont, Alberta was determined, resilient, and always learning. During her school years, she was the number two top scorer in basketball, a top performer in softball, and was named All-Conference, showcasing her talent and competitive spirit. She carried this strength and dedication into her career, working for many years at Dana Corporation until her well-deserved retirement. Even in retirement, Alberta's energy was boundless. She spent her free time building corn hole boards, a pastime that showcased her creative side and her love for bringing people together, and singing karaoke. She was also part of many bands: The Golden Sounds of MoTown, and Gotcha Groove, to name a few) where she spread her love through singing to those near and far. Alberta was known for her warmth, and whether she was entertaining, crafting, or simply offering a helping hand, her compassion was unmistakable. Alberta was a devoted family member. She is now reunited with loved ones who preceded her: her parents, Florene and Frank; her baby sister, Gayla Wilkerson; her aunt, Mary Harbinson; her uncles, Stoney Berry and Kenneth Berry; her nephew, Antoine Hall; and her brother-in-law, Ronald Burnette.

She leaves behind a legacy carried on by her cherished daughter, Okimah Hall, and honorary son-in-law, Keith Avery; her beloved grandchildren, Kwantavius Hall and Kymonah Hall; her precious great-grandchildren, Kade McClain Hall and Kaicen McClain Hall; her siblings, Vonetta Hall Johnson, Frankie Burnette, and Tony Hall; her goddaughters, Shatiagre Tate and Kizzy Dixon; her aunt, Margie Ervin, and uncle, Stanley Berry; her sister cousins, Shelia Butler, and Greta, Valarie, and Vicki Tate; her two bonus sons; her bonus daughter and grandkids; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her special friend, Annette Thompson, whose companionship was a treasured part of her life. In every role she played—daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend—Alberta gave everything she had, embodying love and kindness in every moment. She believed in lifting others up, and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched. To all of us who were blessed to know her, Alberta will be remembered for her generosity, her unbreakable spirit, her ability to find joy in every day, and her angelic voice. Today, we say goodbye to Alberta Gail Hall, but her memory will continue to inspire us. Her laughter, her music, and her unwavering love for those around her remain with us as we carry forward her legacy. Alberta was a light in this world, and though she has left us, her spirit will forever shine in our hearts. May Alberta rest peacefully, reunited with those who went before her, as we honor her memory by embracing the love and compassion she showed us all.
